Lee Ufan Arles is pleased to invite Salomé Gasselin for an intimate viola da gamba concert on July 9, 2024 at 7:30pm at Espace MA.

Salomé Gasselin, the emblematic figure of a new generation, is bringing new life to her favourite instrument: the viola da gamba. Her career has been punctuated by numerous awards (unanimous first prize at the Gianni Bergamo Music Award 2020 in Lugano, Switzerland, second prize at the Bach-Abel Competition 2020 in Köthen, Germany). evening program:
Lucifer, The Morning Star by Salomé Gasselin
Marais/Forqueray/Bach
Lucifer, before he was demonized, refers to the morning star, Venus, which brings light, from the Latin lux, "light" and ferrer, "to carry" as it falls to earth. The Archangel of God, he offers knowledge and freedom to mankind. His shifting meanings make him a mysterious, ambivalent figure who could be the effigy of ancient music.
We'll be looking for some of its original light in the music of Bach and of two strong personalities who left their mark on the viola da gamba in France: Marin Marais, known as "l'Ange", and Forqueray, known as "le Diable".
